2o17, Peri-urban Agriculture & Underground Network: Paris 2.7oo sqm.
– Project Leader for Jean-Paul Viguier
The Grand Paris Express (GPE) is a unique underground network extending over the ancient crop fields around Paris which aims to revolutionize the way that people move, live and consume. The GPE project will promote a deep change in food production and consumption patterns over the extended area of Paris. The goal is to get food self-sufficiency and to share the challenge with other metropolises. The network will also become a tool for local food producers able to feed the 2 million daily passengers through the retail points all over the 68 metro stations. It will create links between farmers and food producers, via the Chambers of Agriculture. A Greenhouse over the Becon-les-Bruyères station benefiting from the heat inside will be able to produce aromatic herbs and to deliver them through the whole “Grand Paris”. Thanks to this innovation the Greenhouse-Ground station will become a demonstrator of urban agriculture for the territory. The Becon-les-Bruyères ground station will be not only one of the 68 underground stations within the network but also an architectural and urban agriculture signal beyond the communal limits throughout the Grand Paris Express network.
